Academic and Professional Staff

Since 2006 we have appointed 150 academics to accelerate the development of our existing and potential centres of excellence.

These include eight subject areas with research rated by the Research Assessment Exercise 2008 (RAE) as comparable with the best in the world:

Art and Design (incorporating Computer Animation);
Communication, Culture and Media;
Geography and Environmental Sciences;
Nursing and Midwifery;
General Engineering;
Archaeology;
Computer Sciences
Business Management

We are running one of the largest staff development programmes in Higher Education to “Release the Potential” of our academic staff while our Doctoral Track scheme supports existing academics to obtain research degrees.

These recruitment and development programmes have significantly increased the proportion of our academic staff with doctorates.

We have implemented arrangements to ensure that our successful academic staff are offered attractive pay and career progression opportunities based on achievement in education, research, enterprise and professional practice.

We are the first new University in the UK to offer academic staff the opportunity to progress as Associate Professors to full Professor status within a period of five years.
