Profile

I have over 20 years of experience in working in glacial and Quaternary geology. During this time I have published five textbooks, edited five volumes and over 100 research papers in a diverse range of fields including environmental geology, stratigraphy, glacial sedimentology, Quaternary geology, and geo-archaeology. Active research themes include the investigation of subglacial volcanoes in Iceland, the sedimentary architecture and flow mechanics of volcanic debris avalanches in Mexico, and the sedimentology of large Quaternary lake basins. I am currently working on a NERC funded project into the early colonization of the Americas. In addition I work as an environmental geologist within the UK specialising on the geophysical investigation of closed landfill sites.
