Area(s) of Interest
ProfileOver the years my research interests have focussed on the cognitive and neural mechanisms of endogenous (internal) and exogenous (external) control with an aim to identify the extent to which we are in control of our thoughts and actions. After completing my PhD in 2004 on controlled and automatic processes at the University of Sussex I moved to the University of Exeter to work on a Wellcome Trust funded project investigating self-control and monitoring functions in the human frontal cortex. During the post-doc I completed eye tracking and functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) studies with patients and undergraduates. This work led to a post-doc at the University of Oxford which again employed fMRI but this time investigated the role of the frontal cortex in decision-making and emotion. I started at Bournemouth in 2008 as Senior Lecturer and relish the opportunity to be able to direct my time and effort to those topics that truly motivate me.
