Profile

I am Leader of the Performative Social Science Group at HSC, which includes faculty from across Schools at BU, including the Media School. I am also a published expert in the Biographic Narrative Interpretive Method. My use of the Method grew out a love of watching, listening to and telling stories. I am Associate Book Review Editor for the online journal, Forum: Qualitative Research (FQS).

My greatest strength is my ability to get people involved—even excited—about the possibilities of creative human interactions, knowledge-sharing and the potential of qualitative social science endeavours, including the use of tools from the Arts & Humanities in qualitative research. An American by birth, I have been studying and working in the UK for the past ten years and travelling throughout Europe to learn and engage.

My personal scholarship has involved developing tools from the arts and humanities for use in dissemination of qualitative data, particularly through the use of new media and film—a Performative Social Science (PSS). From this interest, the online newsgroup, Performative Social Science was created late in 2005. [Join the online newsgroup] I conduct Masterclasses, Workshops and Seminars on PSS, both at BU and other universities-nationally and internationally. I supervise PhD students, particularly those with an interest in PSS.
You can learn more about me (and read/view some of my work) on my website kipworld (see related links) which I would describe as an artistic work-in-progress itself.
