Profile

As a clinical psychologist, my previous occupational roles have included head of a student counselling service and director of a clinical psychology training programme. I have also worked within National Health Service Clinics and GP practices within the United Kingdom. My career spans both academic and clinical contexts, reflecting my interest in pursuing knowledge and practice that is both academically and professionally integrated.

In 2004, I co-founded, and now co-lead, the Centre for Qualitative Research. One interesting development within this endeavour has been to lead a collaboration with Växjö University in Sweden that is developing a distinctive approach to patient-centred care and education. I have supervised two PhD students to completion and currently supervise six PhD students. I also co-lead a supervision group for two cohorts of our professional doctoral programme. My publications are mainly focused on the areas of phenomenological psychology, integrative psychotherapy and practice-related education in health and social care. My current research interests focus on older person care, mental health and quality of life.
