Profile

For most of my career I have worked in public relations or taught and researched it. My research focus has developed into an interest on the intersections of PR with the political economy and civil society in pluralist, liberal democracies. I am intrigued by questions such as: how does the power status of organisations and groups influence their PR messaging and vice versa; can PR increase the power status of its users; is PR always persuasive by intention; how do citizens and consumers react to PR effects? I believe that the large and growing PR component in our promotional culture justifies this focus in the interests of more aware and active citizens and consumers.
