Image use consent

Students talking outside at Talbot Campus

Bournemouth University takes photos or filming during event proceedings for marketing purposes.

To comply with the principles set out in the 1998 Data Protection Act, Bournemouth University requires consent to use photographic images of individuals.

If you do not wish your image to be used for future marketing purposes you can opt-out of the shoot, and should let the photographer/BU staff know. You are also advised to try and stay out of the shot, as you may appear in the background in error.

By opting-in (and not letting us know you are not interested) you are authorising the University to use your image in one or more of the following ways:

  • Publication in prospectuses and other University promotional literature
  • Publication as part of an advertisement or advertisement feature (including outdoor campaigns)
  • Publication on the University or partner web or intranet sites
  • Publication in University CD-ROMs or DVDs as part of a marketing campaign
  • Publication in non University publication which the Marketing Team approves and authorises.

Your image may be presented in film, as a video, or as a still image.

Still photographs will be used for a period of three years from the date of the photograph being taken before being destroyed.

If you should wish to withdraw your consent, please email the photographer at photography@bournemouth.ac.uk.
