Centre for Global Perspectives

About Us

The Centre for Global Perspectives has been set up as part of BU’s ongoing commitment to: embedding global perspectives in the curricula; developing global awareness among our staff and students and providing students with an international curriculum and opportunities for cross-cultural learning in an international environment, befitting for a context of ‘global employability’.

In broad outline, the intention is that the Centre:

  • functions as hub to coordinate and lead curriculum development and research in all areas of global perspectives and internationalisation including the development of cross-institutional units that address global employability
  • works towards the integration of (and learning between) UK and International students, to enhance the student experience and fostering a student body with a broad international perspective and sense of responsibility
  • contributes to the development of a network of strategic international partners (working with the Schools and International Office), to extend student/staff exchange, volunteering and global opportunities, both in HE and industry
  • develops an international perspective in the outlook of academic staff and within curricula
  • contribute to the understanding of the concepts of ‘citizenship’ and global sustainability, what this means for HE, the local community and internationally through academic research

The centre has three foci of activity:

  • scholarship (development of curricula and the student experience to enhance global employability and research)
  • creating a hub (alliances inside and outside BU)
  • engaging with business.

Global Perspectives at BU involves taking forward a particular model to enhance the student learning experience, and our approach involves leading a holistic approach to change which is unique in the sector. These are best illustrated by diagrams provided below.
