Fairtrade Fortnight 2011– Monday 28 February to Friday 11 March

BU, the Students’ Union and Chartwells are coming together to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight 2011. This year the Fairtrade Foundation is asking everyone to ‘Show Off Your Label’, with the aim of getting more people excited about Fairtrade and the difference our everyday choices can make.

BU is a Fairtrade University, and Fairtrade enables more than 7.5 million people to live better lives by ensuring better prices, decent working conditions, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.

Staff and students can show their support for the Fairtrade campaign and post a photo of themselves showing off your Fairtrade label on BU’s Student Switch-Off Facebook page: here or email it to the Fairtrade Steering Group for the chance to win a Fairtrade hamper.

Events going on throughout Fairtrade Fortnight include:

Fair trade or Free trade, Wednesday 23 February – 12.30pm to 2pm
Student Centre, Talbot House, Talbot Campus

Join Dr Stephen Copp, Associate Professor of the Business School specialising in Law and Economics and Simon Giarchi from CAFOD a Catholic relief and aid charity that works to ease the suffering in developing countries to debate the relative values of Fairtrade and free trade.

Talks will begin from 1pm after lunch.

Food Inc (Global Cinema), Wednesday 23 February – 6.30pm
Allsebrook Lecture Theatre, Talbot Campus
