Working at Bournemouth University
BU offers a stimulating working environment, at the heart of the largest non-industrial conurbation in Europe. We provide a range of benefits that reward staff contribution, recognise and embrace equality and diversity, and provide opportunities for career and staff development. All eligible staff are also entered into the appropriate final salary pension scheme. All new staff are invited to our induction events where there are opportunities to meet our Vice-Chancellor and other members of the University Executive Group. Staff also receive regular email messages from our Vice-Chancellor on the latest BU news and education, enterprise, research and professional practice activity and details of development at BU are carried in Bulletin, our monthly staff newsletter, and on our Staff Portal. The well-being of our staff is also important to us. All staff have access to an occupational Health and Staff Well-being Advisor and an external, confidential counselling service, as well as internal support. We recognise and consult with two trade unions – UCU and Unison – and we have an ICE agreement (Information and Consultation of Employees) with our staff, which is innovative and pioneering within the University sector. Aside from these more formal arrangements, we also go to great lengths to ensure that the views and opinions of our staff are taken into consideration at all times through employee surveys, all-staff meetings, consultation exercises and regular committee and team meetings.
