The University operates a system of "collective responsibility" which means that where an individual cannot be identified as responsible for any disciplinary matter, then those Residents who, in the University's opinion, are most likely to have been involved, will be liable. Charges may be incurred for damages and vandalism. Any aspect of tampering with fire safety equipment, including propping open fire doors, letting off extinguishers, covering detector heads etc., could lead to expulsion from Halls. Anti-social behaviour can be dealt with by a fine or by exclusion, according to the severity of the offence. Any fine will be no greater than £50 and is at the discretion of the Residential Services Manager. Smoking within any of the Halls may incur a charge of £20. Internet and IP Telephony provision maybe suspended where a resident seriously or persistently breaches the Terms and Conditions or Rules of Occupancy. Who is liable for charges?Liability depends on the location of the offence. It is preferred that any individual guilty of an offence admits his or her responsibility or other Residents may pay the price. Location of Offence Room or own private bathroom Shared kitchen Shared Lounge Shared Bathroom Hallway Lift Lobby (Hurn) Lift Lobby (Cranborne) Fire Lobby (Cranborne Wings) Landing Exterior (including car parks) Off Site Guests and non-residents within the Halls are the responsibility of Residents and so penalties shall apply even if you personally did not cause the offence. |
