Cranborne House

During the evenings and at weekends we enjoy the services of contracted security staff who are based at reception.

At night time there are extra patrols to walk the corridors, stairways and grounds.

They may also man the entrances to do spot checks to ensure that unwanted guests do not gain access.

The role of the guards is:

  • To look after the building out of office hours
  • Issue keys
  • Enforce the University´s regulations
  • Prevent or deal with anti-social behaviour, including noise nuisance
  • Deal with fire alarms
  • Be courteous to residents
  • Manage access to the building and car parks
  • Check that flats are locked at night.

Always lock your flat door, especially at night. Guards may enter to check all is well if doors are unlocked.

University employed maintenance staff will occasionally need access to the flat or your room.

They will be courteous and respect your privacy but, please co-operate as much as possible in giving them access as it is not always practical for them to call back later.

They will usually visit during office hours (except in emergencies).

Hurn House

Hurn House also has an out of hours "guard" based at the office on the first floor car park (behind the laundry).

Maintenance staff or the Warden may need access to your room occasionally and the policy above for Cranborne applies.

Student Village

The Student Village has a guard based at Poole House Reception at night times and weekends.

They will occassionally patrol the Village and can attend to any problems.

Security cameras also monitor the Village.

You may contact Poole House reception if you need assistance - either visit or telephone 965001.

Maintenance staff may need access to your room occasionally and the policy for Cranborne House stated previously applies.
