The ALERT project (Accessibility in Learning Environments and Related Technologies) aimed to improve the accessibility of online learning in specific subject areas. In particular, to identify methods of supporting disabled students to enable them to achieve the pedagogical objectives of their modules through a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
Guidelines have been produced from case studies undertaken with students and staff across a variety of academic disciplines. These guidelines are aimed at use by academic and academic related staff, such as learning technologists, and members of disability support units.
It is hoped that the guidelines and case studies will promote discussion and reflection on existing practice and encourage adaptation and innovation in future thinking.
The ALERT project was run between Durham and Bournemouth Universities between July 03 and July 05.
