How Gifts Help

Gifts made to The Bournemouth University Foundation fund projects and activities right across the university, opening up opportunities for individual students and improving facilities for all.

Hardship and Scholarships

We don't believe that anybody should miss out on a university education because of their financial background, and are working to remove the barriers faced by students living on a low income.

Current projects range from awards made to support students on valuable internships and unpaid placements, to the loans we make to help students struggling with accommodation costs.

Library and Student Facilities

Our Sir Michael Cobham Library is an award-winning facility that owes its very existence to a generous legacy gift. More recent gifts have helped us develop it still further with better study areas, a broader range of resources and the latest technology.

Elsewhere on campus, gifts from alumni have provided everything from extra equipment in the sports centre to cameras used in forensic science labs.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

We seek to support a wide range of activities that enhance the student experience and further develop students' skills.

Grants made in recent years have supported dozens of worthwhile student activities from course-related visits made by the law society and equipment for the student newspaper, to funding for arts and sports groups. We also help fund work that benefits the wider world, such as student volunteering schemes and community action groups.

Major Projects

The BU Foundation also works with individuals and organisations to progress a wide range of specific, individual projects. Key examples include the Dominic Marrocco Chair in Entrepreneurship and MBA Scholarships, the John Kent Institute in Tourism and our membership of the Santander Universities group.

The Bournemouth University Foundation is a charity dedicated to supporting the development of the University and its students.
