The BU Foundation
Placement Award Scheme

Man at work Healthcare worker Woman at work

Our Placement Awards are specially designed to support students undertaking short, unpaid work placements.

Three awards of £500 each are available to help with the costs of taking up placements that offer a rewarding professional development opportunity but don't pay a wage.

Placement Awards are funded entirely by donations made by former students of BU.

Eligibility Criteria

We're able to offer a £500 award to each of the three best applicants, as chosen by a panel of BU staff. We welcome applications from anybody who is:

  • An undergraduate student with BU or one of its partners;
  • Performing well academically; and
  • Participating in a 4-10 week placement with an external organisation before October 2012.

You will not be eligible if:

  • Your placement is salaried or you are receiving other placement funding;
  • You have any outstanding debts to BU; or
  • Your placement is less than 4 weeks or more than 10 weeks with any one organisation.

How to apply

Complete the: Placement Award Application Form (DOC 226KB) and return it to us by 4pm on Friday 10 February 2012.

Applications should be e-mailed to development@bournemouth.ac.uk or posted to The BU Foundation, Room LR106, 21 Lansdowne Road, Bournemouth, BH1 1RZ.

Successful applicants will be notified by the end of February. Payment will follow during July, after the placement has been confirmed.

Please note: placements must be completed by October 2012 and an award can only be paid once the placement has been confirmed.
