Cara's design is good news for snoozing babies

20 January 2010

SnoozeShade and buggy Graduate Cara Sayer launches an innovative new buggy blind for babies on the move!

Graduate Cara Sayer put her Communication degree to good use in her time after BU. Working in publishing, PR and events, Cara spent time consulting forcompanies as diverse as Tesco, eBay, LucasArts and The National Lottery before eventually settling on a career as a freelance marketing consultant.

Now though, Cara has turned inventor, thanks to her experiences with her young daughter and her canny solution to a common problem faced by parents.

Trying to let her daughter sleep in her pram while out and about, Cara was frustrated by the tricky task of covering the pram: blankets and coats would either fall off or ended up nearly blowing away when caught by the wind. Spotting a gap in the market, she eventually came up with SnoozeShadeTM - an easy-to-fit cover that would stop the sun and other distractions keeping baby awake.

Last October, SnoozeShade made an appearance at the Baby Products Association Show, a key trade show. The cost of attending was a big commitment and Cara was apprehensive about the reception the product would get – "I dreaded everyone saying it was rubbish and that I should forget about it," she said. In fact, the product got a great reception with several orders placed at the show.

Now, the process has really gathered speed. Pushing ahead with safety testing, packaging design and marketing, Cara's ready to launch in mid February and you'll soon be seeing the SnoozeShade in big name retailers such as Mothercare, Jo Jo Maman Bebe and Kiddicare.

We wish Cara every luck with the launch – and look forward to another product designed by a BU graduate hitting the shelves.
