Bournemouth 1810-2010: Smuggling to Surfing11 January 2010
Over the last 200 years, Bournemouth has grown from a few buildings near the mouth of the Bourne to a vibrant and internationally-renowned town with its own unique character. As part of the town's 2010 bicentenary, a specially-commissioned new history of the town will hit the shelves this Easter. Written by experts on Bournemouth's history and geography, the book breaks new ground in its focus on the individuals and communities that have shaped Bournemouth's fortunes. This is a history of a place which, despite its heathland location, has grown and remade itself to meet new opportunities - from a health resort to a thriving financial centre and university town. The book is a sister publication to the exciting 'Streets of Bournemouth' project, the virtual museum all about Bournemouth launching later in the year. BU alumni can pre-order a copy of the book at a discount - just download and return the order form. |
