Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is vital to the economic recovery of the UK and is seen as a priority by all political parties. In response to this we have reviewed our undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum. The School of Applied Science will focus its future growth more clearly towards the STEM agenda, placing Bournemouth University at the heart of a regional hub.

  • Archaeology and Geography & Environmental Studies rated 'World Leading' according to the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE, 2008)
  • During 2009, the journal Science, one of the world's highest rated research publications, published three papers by academics from the School
  • Students work with outstanding laboratory and computing facilities with high specification analytical equipment, a spatial analysis suite for geoinformatics and extensive reference collections of materials, artefacts and human and animal skeletons
  • On our doorstep are the ancient and historic landscapes of the Wiltshire Downs, the New Forest and the Jurassic Coast all of which provide a unique natural laboratory for our courses in which fieldwork is a key component.
