Staff profiles

Our staff are a group of professional scientists whose research interests cover footprints to butterflies, the Neolithic period to toxicology.

They are talented individuals passionate about sharing professional practice, committed to education of the highest standard and support best practice at all levels. Meet some of the individuals here or view standard profiles from all our academic staff.

Rudy GozlanRudy undertook his Bachelor's, Master's and MPhil study in France and completed his PhD at the University of Hertfordshire. He is part of the Natural Environment Research Council's (NERC) Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH).

Professor Holger SchutkowskiHolger's route through academia in Germany and the UK has seen him emerge at the top of bioarchaeology, in a research field that he feels extremely passionate about.

Dr Martin SmithAfter obtaining his PhD at Birmingham University, Martin worked on a three-year postdoctoral before starting his current post at Bournemouth. His past work has covered a range of time periods with particular focus on the Neolithic. His interests centre principally on areas of taphonomy and trauma, with relevance to both forensic and archaeological remains.

Professor Ralph ClarkeIt's fair to say Professor Clarke has a passion for numbers. He holds a first class Maths and Statistics bachelor's degree from University of Reading and an Applied Statistics Master's from University of Southampton. Ralph joined BU in 2007 and his research is tackling some of the biggest pressing issues in the field.

Dr Anita DiazSince Anita was young, she had a raw inquisitiveness about the natural world. This passion led to the completion of a PhD at University of Exeter in 1994. Anita then worked as a post-doctoral researcher and then became Lecturer in Ecology at De Montfort University. She joined BU in 1998.

Emma Jenkins Emma has previously worked at the University of Reading and the Institute of Archaeology, University College London. She completed her PhD at the University of Cambridge. Emma also undertook an Arts and Humanities Research Council funded postdoctoral project in Jordan.

Paola PalmaPaola's interest in all things nautical began at an early age in her native Italy and was inspired further by her undergraduate degree in the floating city, Venice.
