‘Eco-tourism in saltworks of the Atlantic: a strategy for integral and sustainable development’ (ECOSAL Atlantis), is an INTERREG IVB (Atlantic Area Trans-national Programme) research project.
ECOSAL researchers are investigating, recording and enhancing the setting of traditional salt producing sites around the Atlantic coasts of Portugal, Spain, France and the UK.
The research has four specific objectives with regards to its investigation into traditional salt producing sites.
The focus of this project is to create a linked heritage and ecology-based trail on the basis of knowledge on traditional salt working sites.
The researchers delve into more depth about saltmaking in the UK.
Here in the UK we are gearing up for a Spring and Summer field work season which will involve visits to key sites all over the country.
Along with Bournemouth University’s School of Applied Sciences, there are 12 other partners involved in this exciting and innovative project.
