The Singing Landscape Project in Hampshire - Do you have a singing ancestor?

Centre for Archaeology, Anthropology & Heritage

Can you help?
We all have singing ancestors. This project gives people a chance to find out who they were, where they lived, what they sang, sometimes even what they looked like. Perhaps you are researching your family history and have ancestors in Somerset, Gloucestershire or Hampshire who share the same surname as some of our singers.

Hampshire – your ancestor on the Folk Map?
Research is currently underway into the folk singers of Hampshire. We are working to produce a Hampshire Folk Map and a touring exhibition, both available in 2009.

Do you recognise your ancestor's name in this list? I so then we'd love to hear from you. We are keen to learn anything at all about these singers. Maybe you have a family story, or a photograph, maybe a birth, marriage or death certificate.

Anything you might be able to share that could help us to understand these singers and their lives would be fantastic to receive. We plan to include the best documented/most interesting singers on the new Hampshire Folk Map, will your ancestor be featured?'

Do contact Chris, or myself , if you wish to find out more about the project or to share information. We all have singing ancestors and some of us are lucky enough to have the opportunity to learn about them. We hope to hear from you soon.
