Maritime archaeology offers one of the most exciting and fulfilling careers one can hope for - the excitement of learning more about man’s past.

Like most academic subjects not everyone that undertakes an archaeology degree ends up working in archaeology, the national average is that around 15% of archaeology graduates ends up working in the discipline, although Bournemouth’s record on this is much higher at 40% (CHECK), the highest of any UK university.

This is due in no small part to the institutions focus on the vocational aspects of the discipline. Archaeology has been taught at Bournemouth since 1967, initially as a well respected practical course that laid the foundations for the suite of under and post graduate programmes that the School of Applied Science now offers.

This practical emphasis is still in evidence within the programmes suite the School offers and all programmes still have a high practical and science component, the worth of which can been seen in our employment figures.
