Project Objectives
The core objective of the project is to deliver a series of international sport tourism networking events across four continents. These events will be organised during 2010 and themed on three particular aspects of sport tourism development. Five travel and conference bursaries will be offered for each of the three main international networking events. The events are aligned with existing sport, tourism, leisure and events conferences. In addition to bursary recipients attending and delivering academic papers at the conferences, the project will also involve the organisation of specially arranged one-day sport tourism workshops and ‘master classes’ chaired and facilitated by experts in the field of sport tourism research. It is anticipated that the project will lead to long-term international collaboration amongst the recipients of the bursaries and provide a platform for the exchange of information and sharing of experiences of research best practices in the domain of sport tourism studies. External researchers and industry practitioners with an interest in sport related travel and sporting events will be encouraged to attend the one-day workshops to assist with fostering international collaboration and developing sport tourism networks. |
