Dentists commend BU legal workshop

Department of Law lecturers, Nigel Astbury and Tina Martell, in conjunction with local dentist, Paul Kelly, recently organised an innovative CPD workshop. Over 15 dentists attended this afternoon session, looking at the legal liabilities and risks inherent in running a dental practice and dealing with patients.
The event covered topics including those areas of dentistry which might give rise to legal claims, dealing with claims for negligence and damages, the issue of consent and how to avoid these pitfalls.
This event was organised in recognition of the General Dental Council’s recommendation that all dental clinical staff receive educational updates in legal and ethical issues.

This workshop also highlights the growing demand for the Business School to provide short courses with CPD accreditation to the local business community.
