I am a Rheumatologist with 15 years experience as a Consultant working with people with chronic musculoskeletal diseases within Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
. I undertake clinically based research trying to answer questions relevant to my practice as a basis for service development and improvement. We won the Hospital Doctor Rheumatology Unit of the year in 2000.
My interest in osteoporosis lead to the formation of Osteoporosis Dorset (Charity No. 1023507)
with the aim of reducing the incidence of fractures in Dorset. I have been
Clinical Director of Medicine at Poole Hospital and Programme Director for the
Wessex Rheumatology Training rotation. I am a member of National research and
clinical Rheumatology organisations and am currently Director of the NHS Dorset
Research and Support Unit. I therefore know a little bit about a lot of things
and have good contacts with a wide variety of healthcare professionals, managers
and decision makers locally!
In 2001 I was offered secondment for a day a week to work in the SHSC to develop postgraduate medical research and development and we will launch the Centre of Postgraduate Medical Research and Education in June 2007. The best is yet to come.
