Collaborations and Possibilities
A number of initiatives and collaborations are developing. The work undertaken has methodological strengths and potential for collaboration with other centres within the school, notably the Centre for Qualitative Research and the Centre for Health and Well-being and in respect of COPMRE and epidemiological approaches. There is pan-University potential in respect of mental health developments that may link to COPMRE, relations with the Trusts and local authorities (including an articulation with educational experiences and CPD enterprise), and may link in the future with forensics.
The team is acknowledged as a leader in respect of regional Skills for Care research, which often drive national initiatives and planning (for instance, in respect of post-qualifying funding; in developing service user involvement in education and research; in respect of continued training/education for newly qualified social workers).
Work with other universities is developing, including research intensive universities such as Sheffield and Birmingham, and further work with international universities is planned including Chinese University Hong Kong.
Interdisciplinarity
As part of the School of Health and Social Care there are natural synergies with health care professions in developing research and enterprise initiatives and the core areas outlined above lend to work with the Centre for Qualitative Research and the Centre for Health and Well-being and COPMRE.
However, there are wider interdisciplinary possibilities including work with the business school in respect of leadership and management, with law in terms of mental health and mental capacity issues, work with Sports Science in relation to issues of ethics and abuse and with ConSci concerning the implications of climate change in human terms (migration, social support structures and community responses).
