Staff from the academic group ‘social and community work’ – including social workers, community workers, mental health and learning disability nurses – will form the mainstay of the centre and will have a natural home within the centre. All members of the academic group will have the opportunity to be members of the centre when associated with projects which are core to the centre’s vision. However, the interdisciplinary perspective of the work will ensure that boundaries are permeable both inwards and outwards, and synergies with other centres and personnel will expand the numbers active within the centre as members and associate members.
In 2008, the centre will elect leads in the four identified core areas (pedagogical research, participatory research, mental health, capacity, ethics and older people, leadership in social care) to take forward research, enterprise and educational initiatives, and to work alongside other relevant centres and school structures to achieve these aims.
Potential for staff development:
The centre is providing supervisory support and encouragement to existing staff members undertaking doctoral work either within or external to the University. This will enhance the capacity to supervise research students and to attract increased funding and research and enterprise.
