Study and Work Abroad

Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco Snow Beach Temple in Japan

Through the Centre for Global Perspectives we aim to ensure that all students have the opportunity to engage with international activities, either on or off campus.

We are living in a ‘global village’ and employers are increasingly becoming internationalised. We believe that by developing a global perspective, you will enhance your employability both at home and overseas.

We believe that an international experience will help you to:

  • Enhance your employability skills for an international career
  • Develop advanced communication skills
  • Use international English for a global world
  • Understand and respect yourself and others
  • Apply your problem solving skills
  • Be independent, creative & confident
  • Work in cross-cultural teams

There are opportunities at BU to engage in the following international activities:

  • Study exchanges
  • Work placements
  • Volunteering
  • Summer Schools

“For students, a period of study or work abroad brings positive benefits both personally and professionally. It enhances their understanding of other languages and cultures, and increases their confidence and self-reliance. In a global economy these skills and competencies are increasingly sought by employers, and students with this experience will find that their employability is higher than without it.” (Bill Rammell, July 2007, Member of Parliament, Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills).
