Support Available

The groupings below are intended to give a general indication of the type of support available from the ALN Service.

We encourage you to make an appointment with an ALN Adviser as soon as possible, so that we can discuss your own personal support requirements.

Exam Support for ALN students

When you come to see us, we will discuss with you the appropriate level of support for your particular ALN and make recommendations to your academic School. This support will cover end of year exams or in-class tests.

Given sufficient notice, ALNS can make exam arrangements for you, such as those listed below.

  • A Reader will read the exam questions to you. They will do this as many times as necessary, but you will need to take time constraints into consideration.
  • A Scribe (or amanuensis) will type your dictated answers. You may not find it easy to dictate your answers but, given notice, we can arrange for you to meet with a scribe beforehand in order to practise.
  • Extra time is allowed for those with certain learning difficulties, physical difficulty or medical conditions.
  • Rest breaks may be granted for those with certain physical or medical conditions.

If you haven't contacted us already, make an appointment today!

Book to attend an exam revision workshop, available to all students in the University.
