Design Simulation Research Projects
We have formed useful links with medical device manufacturers, such as Dorset Orthopaedics and various NHS hospitals (Bristol Southmead, Southampton General, etc.). We have strong link with Airbus UK. We are forming links with national and international sports regulatory and governing bodies and with Middle and Far Eastern countries to collaborate in research.
New research initiatives include:
- Simulation and optimisation of manufacturing processes
- Static and dynamic design verification of smart composite structures
- Maintaining cultural identity and DNA through modern creative design and processes
- Flexible tooling for composite manufacture
- Ethical introduction of enabling technologies in disability sport
- Timing in virtual design communication
- Application of virtual reality and shape morphing technologies in creative design and processes
- Prediction of characteristics of anisotropic composite structures through a combination of simulation, AI, experimental analysis
Enterprise initiatives include:
The following short courses are designed and developed to address the needs of local and national industries. They can be delivers at BU or on-site. Some are credit bearing which means they can be used toward other forms of CPD activities.
- Mechanics of Materials and Lightweight Structures
- Advanced Mechanics of Materials and Lightweight Structures
- Mechanics of Materials and Aerospace Structure Design
- Design Realisation
- Using Simulation for Competitive Advantage
- Creative Design
- Design & Technology – Product Design
- Communications and Networks
- Network Design and Management.
