HE Academy - Benchmarking

Bournemouth University has been successful in its bid to be in Phase 1 of the HEA e-learning benchmarking exercise. “The exercise has three aims:

  • to provide institutions with the information to make informed plans for future development
  • to allow institutions providing higher education to identify their current progress, on embedding e-learning, in relation to similar institutions
  • to provide a picture of the sector as a whole in order to identify areas of strategic importance to inform the work of the JISC, the Academy and the Funding Councils

The exercise will provide quantifiable and qualitative information on how far institutions are 'embedding' different aspects of e-learning into institutional policy and practice.” (HEA, http://www.heacademy.ac.uk/ourwork/learning/elt/benchmarking)

BU selected the benchmarking methodology of the Association of Commonwealth Universities Observatory on Borderless Higher Education (ACU/OBHE). This requires the completion of an Institutional Review Document (IRD) using questions prepared by the ACU/OBHE team. The IRD is intended to provide the basis for rigorous institutional self-review and is based on how HEIs operate at present. All information provided to the OBHE consultants by participating HEIs is on a confidential basis. The IRD (PDF 567kb) is a confidential document available within BU.

The final report for the OBHE/ACU Benchmarking Programme Phase One (PDF 814kb) is now available within BU.

The e-learning strategy steering group is the e-learning benchmarking strategy group. The e-learning project group consists of Dr Barbara Newland, Janice Hurne, Jill Beard and Linda Byles.
