Education Conference 2008![]() Bournemouth University Education Conference: Curriculum 2012This year’s conference took place on May 19th and was a resounding success, with over 100 delegates from BU Schools, Professional Services and Partner Institutions. A stunning exhibit of thirty-seven posters, disseminating initiatives to enhance education practice and the student experience, provided the central focus for the conference and were on display throughout the day. Following a welcome by Janet Hanson, Head of Academic Services, the Conference was opened by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Paul Curran, who highlighted of some of BU’s recent education achievements for the audience. The keynote address came from Stephen Heppell - Professor of New Media Environments in CEMP and an internationally acclaimed authority on online education. Professor Heppell discussed changes in the ways school students are learning, which will affect their expectations of university by 2012. Concurrent workshops themed on aspects of the BU Education Enhancement Strategy were led by the Deputy Deans (Education). These themes were:
Delegates contributed to these workshops with lively and engaging discussions and feedback from them was presented in the afternoon by each of the Deputy Deans. The exciting new BU Awards for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning were launched in the afternoon by Dr Brian Astin, Pro Vice Chancellor (Education) and the conference closed with a final keynote address by Professor Heppell who summarised the day’s events and inspired us all to look forward to where BU will be in 2012 and how we will achieve this.
