Student Unit Evaluation - Staff Information
The Student Unit Evaluation (SUE) survey for 2009/10 is being provided online through myBU using a software package called Waypoint. The core set of questions (pdf, 21kb) remain the same. These are aligned to National Student Survey (NSS) questions in the sections on Teaching and Assessment. Schools have also had the choice of selecting an additional three questions relevant to their education delivery patterns. The surveys are being deployed centrally by Educational Development Services, but the timing has been determined by the School. Some lecturers may arrange for their students to complete the survey in a PC lab. If you are planning to do this, please ensure your School Academic Administration Manager is aware of the date and time. If you or your students have problems accessing the link to Waypoint from myBU, please contact the IT Service Desk http://servicedesk.bournemouth.ac.uk so the problem can be logged and passed to the most appropriate person to resolve. Accessing your resultsLecturers are able to view the response rates while the survey is open so you can encourage students to complete it and provide you with feedback. Their responses are anonymous and you will not be able to see their comments until the survey is closed, when they will be forwarded to you. You can also view your final quantitative data online as soon as the survey is closed and calculate the mean and overall satisfaction rates. Information on how to access the results is available in the following guide: Staff guide to accessing results (pdf, 302kb). Additional methods of gaining feedback from studentsSUE is one way of seeking student feedback on your education practice, and students respond if they can see that their feedback is considered and acted upon, even if it is only to say that their point is noted but no action can be taken at this time. Your responses can be published on your unit area in myBU. You could also set up a discussion board or blog to encourage students to engage in more of a dialogue with you and their peers about the unit. This may prompt them to consider their responsibilities for making the unit a successful learning experience for all. Your School Learning Technologist should be able to help you use these features in myBU. Drop in sessions are available for those staff interested in navigating around the Waypoint software. Dates to be confirmed. For specific School requirements and demonstrations please contact learningtechnology@bournemouth.ac.uk |
