Online study
What can I study?
BU can offer you online courses in the following subject areas:
Business & Management
If you are thinking about a career in Business, Management, HR, Finance or Marketing, we have the following online course that can help you move up the career ladder and enhance your career prospects:
Bachelors degree – BA (Hons) International Business & Management
"I chose BU because they offered a course that gave me the opportunity to realise my ambition and complete a degree without infringement on work."
"It did entail quite a lot of self-motivation and organisation", Alison admits. "But the outcome was well worth surrendering the evenings and weekends for. I highly recommend this course to anyone who wishes to formalise their knowledge and would like to learn more about the world of business."
Alison Hoskin BA (Hons) International Business & Management (Online)
Media & Creative Industries
If you are involved in the creative/media industries, or teach creative/media studies, we have the following online postgraduate courses available to aid your professional development:
Masters degree – Creative & Media Education
This innovative course is designed specifically for teachers and those in relevant educational support and development roles. It aims to develop your knowledge of the media industry, production practice and media pedagogy.
Using the latest online resources, it will enable you to negotiate study with a personal tutor. This ensures the experience is relevant to your needs and enables you to fashion the course to suit your personal requirements, within your own school or college. In addition, you will benefit from a three-day, intensive masterclass each term – in effect your own ‘creative retreat’.
Masters degree – Creative Media Practice
This course has been designed for professionals in the creative industries. It aims to enhance your professional practice so that projects you are involved with at work form part of the evidence for this postgraduate qualification.
Using the latest online technologies, it enables you to negotiate study with a personal tutor, ensuring that the outcomes are relevant to your needs. You are also able to fashion the course to suit your personal requirements within your own work environment.

Short Courses for Media Professionals
A new and innovative approach to short courses for Media professionals - at the core of each course is a two-day ‘creative retreat’ (Friday/Saturday) where you will be able to network with other like-minded professionals, as well as develop your knowledge and skills in the specific area of study. To further complement the knowledge gained from the weekend session, an additional seven weeks of online tuition is available; and if you so wish you will be able to gain 20 Masters level (M) credits – which you can use to build you own tailored Masters degree.
Masters degree – Screenwriting
This part-time course is accredited by Skillset and is taught entirely by residential/attendance periods combined with distance learning.
You will be on campus for four residential periods (of five days each). These periods on campus contain an intensive course in writing for the screen, with lectures, presentations, seminars, analysed screenings, exercises and discussions together with group meetings and one-to-one tutorials. They form the core of the course, and all script assignments are fully prepared during these meetings. Each of these residential periods is followed by a 'writing phase' when you will be individually tutored on a distance-learning basis as you write your scripts/essays to complete each unit.
