Entry requirements
English language entry requirements
If English is not your first language, you will need to provide evidence that you can read, write, speak and understand English to a satisfactory level.
English language requirements, for the majority of our Bachelors and taught Masters courses, are normally a minimum of:
- Successful completion of one of BU’s Preparatory English Programmes
- IELTS (Academic) 6.0 overall with no less than 5.5 in each component
- TOEFL (internet based) 80, or
- have achieved a mark of 8/80% / grote onderscheiding / grande distinction in English as part of the Getuigschrift Van Hoger Secundair Onderwijs or Certificat d’Enseignement Secondaire Superieur qualification.
For some courses where communication is especially important the grades required may be higher and a minimum score in individual components may be requested.
Academic entry requirements
If you followed the Belgian system of education, below is our guideline for the normal academic entry requirements for the different levels of qualifications at BU. Your application will be studied by an admissions tutor so it is important that you take the time to include information about your academic background and you as a person!
International Foundation Certificate
If you have completed 12 years of schooling in your own country and have achieved a minimum of IELTS (Academic) 5.0*, you now have the option of undertaking a one year BU International Foundation Certificate before entering a Bachelors (undergraduate) course.
* For some courses the IELTS requirement will be higher.
