Postgraduate research programmes
Tuition fees
For students beginning their research degree in the academic year 2011/12 the tuition fees range from £4,200 - £4,500 per academic year.
Cost of living
As well as money to pay your tuition fees, you will need enough money for living expenses – the amount will vary depending on your personal lifestyle.
As a guideline, for each calendar year (12 months) you should allow approximately £8,000 for yourself, plus at least an extra £3,500 for your spouse/older child and £2,000 for each young child.
Examples of things (at 2009 prices) that you will have to pay for are:
- Accommodation - £70 - £100 per week approx
- Bills- £35 per month approx. (cooking, heating, lighting and water)
- Food - £100 per month approx (depending on diet)
- Books - £170 per year approx.
Working in Bournemouth
As Bournemouth is a service sector town it provides plenty of opportunities for part-time, casual work in its range of cafés, restaurants, bars, hotels and shops. Many students supplement their income by finding part-time employment during their time at BU. Of course the amount you will be able to commit to will depend on the demands of your course of study.
