Entry requirements
English language entry requirements
If English is not your first language, you will need to provide evidence that you can read, write, speak and understand English to a satisfactory level.
English language requirements, for the majority of our Bachelors and taught Masters courses, are normally a minimum of:
- Successful completion of one of BU’s Preparatory English Programmes
- IELTS (Academic) 6.0, or
- TOEFL (internet based) 80, or
- Those students who have achieved grades 1 – 6 in the WASSCE may be considered for entry without having to obtain a further English language qualification.
For some courses where communication is especially important the grades required may be higher and a minimum score in individual components may be requested.
Academic entry requirements
If you followed the Nigerian system of education then this is our guideline for the normal entry requirements. Your application will be studied by an admissions tutor so it is important that you take the time to include information about your academic background and you as a person!
International Foundation Certificate
If you have completed 12 years of schooling in your own country and have achieved a minimum of IELTS (Academic) 5.0*, you now have the option of undertaking a one year BU International Foundation Certificate before entering a Bachelors (undergraduate) course.
* For some courses the IELTS requirement will be higher.
