Applying for a postgraduate course
Please make sure you have read the application procedures page first.
Who do I contact if I want more information?
If you want information on a specific postgraduate course at the University, you must contact one of the BCIE offices who will be able to assist you. Please do not contact the University directly. We will not be able to respond to your enquiry and we will redirect your enquiry to BCIE.
You will be invited to attend a counselling session at your nearest BCIE office.
BCIE staff will give you advice with regard to the courses available at BU and the application procedure.
You will not be charged for the initial interview, but should you decide to pursue an application you will have to pay a £150 (local currency 40,000 naira) application fee.
Who do I contact if I am living outside of Nigeria?
If you are a Nigerian national, but living outside of Nigeria, you will still have to contact an BCIE office either in Nigeria or the UK (Bedford) and should you apply, you will have to pay the application fee as you will still be counselled on the subjects you are interested in and your application will be submitted by BCIE on your behalf.
However, if you are currently on a student visa in the UK studying at another institution, we may be able to consider your application directly.
How do I apply to BU?
You will be given an application form by BCIE during the interview process and BCIE staff will assist you with completing the form.
BCIE will send the completed application form and supporting documentation to the International Admissions Team at BU who will then forward them to the relevant Programme Administrator.
All correspondence with regard to the application will then be between BCIE and the International Admissions Team at BU. BCIE will of course keep you informed of all the developments in the application process.
What will happen if I apply directly to the University without going through BCIE?
The University will not process any applications received directly from Nigerian students. They will be returned to the student. We will only accept applications that are received via BCIE.
What happens next if the University wants to make me an offer to study a course?
An offer letter will be sent to BCIE who will then inform you. This offer letter will set out the conditions of the offer, your tuition fees, and also a request for your deposit. You will be asked to place a deposit of £2,000. All deposits must be made payable to BCIE, once your deposit is made this secures your place on the course.
This offer letter will not be valid to apply for a visa. Only when the deposit is received and cleared by BCIE, will another offer letter be issued that will assist you in obtaining your visa to study at BU.
What happens if I am denied a visa?
BCIE charges an admin fee of £500 to students who are denied visas on the basis of a forged bank statement or other forged documents.
All other students are given a full deposit refund within 3 months of a visa rejection document being handed to an BCIE office.
How will I book my University accommodation?
Once your offer is unconditional, you have paid your deposit and secured your visa, BCIE will book your University accommodation on your behalf following discussions with you as to the kind of accommodation you would like.
