Student profiles
We know that you want to hear about BU from those who really matter – our current students! Please see below for profiles from our current Turkish students / graduates – we’ll let them do the rest of the talking!
Begum Yavuzdogan
LLM International Commercial Law
Well, I chose BU, as it is one of the most developing universities in the UK. After my graduation from the Law School of Istanbul University, I started working in a law firm in Istanbul as an intern before I made up my mind about doing masters degree in the UK. Although it was not an easy decision to go abroad and study law in different law system, I think that it was a brilliant one!
I have learnt a lot in my course about Common Law system and mentality which adds significant value to my law background and thinking. I have enjoyed the Civil law v. Common Law battles in discussions and in assignments! Our lecturers and admin staff were approachable, always ready to help and discuss any issue with us. Having spent lots of time in the library I find it as very friendly and the most valuable place of the university, like a second home.
BU has a great international community and offers great support for international students so you are always feeling happy and confident being an overseas student. There are many opportunities to join social events like volunteering in the community, meeting English families…etc.
Finally, Bournemouth as a place to live is very handy. You can stay away from the hustle and bustle of big city life and pursue peaceful academic life while London and its attractions and other nice cities are just a couple of hours away from you! People in Bournemouth and in England are exceptionally friendly and embrace the international students all the time.
I am planning to go back to Turkey after completing my dissertation and pursue my law career as a lawyer there with the experience and knowledge I gained from BU and my life in England.
