IELTS and TOEFL comparison scores

The tables below compare the total score and component score respectively between IELTS and TOEFL. We will use this comparison to ascertain whether you have met the level required for entry to study at BU. The comparison below is a guide based on UK Border Agency’s requirements for Tier 4 Student Visa.

We accept a range of other English language qualifications. These tests are amongst the Secure English Language Tests (SELT) published by UK Border Agency. Please contact the International Admissions Team if you are not sure if your English language qualification is accepted for entry at BU.

*BU courses do not require a component score at IELTS 6.5 or equivalent in Listening, Reading and Speaking. However, the UKBA minimum requirement (IELTS 5.5 or equivalent) still applies. The IELTS 5.5 component score equivalents are indicated in brackets.
