BUPEP
Bournemouth University Preparatory English Programmes (BUPEP)
Bournemouth University (BU) offers preparatory English programmes to help you prepare for selected undergraduate and postgraduate courses starting at BU in September 2012 and January 2013.
Our experience suggests that students who have spent time in England, developing the necessary language and study skills before starting their chosen programme, have a real advantage both academically and culturally.
A key feature of BUPEP is that some of the early stages of the programme are offered in collaboration with local partners, who are very experienced in teaching English for Academic Purposes.
Although these early stages are taught at our local partners, you will belong to the University community from day one and will have full access to the BU campus facilities.
BUPEP pathways
There are three different BUPEP pathways:
- BUPEP Autumn Degree Admission - for students who plan to study selected undergraduate or postgraduate degree course in September 2012
- BUPEP Media School Admission - for students who plan to begin a Media School undergraduate or postgraduate degree course starting in September 2012
- BUPEP Spring Degree Admission - for students who plan to begin their postgraduate degree course in January 2013.
Progression onto your academic course at BU
In order to be unconditionally accepted onto your chosen postgraduate or undergraduate course at BU, you have to successfully complete BUPEP. This means that you are expected to achieve a satisfactory standard in your class work and any assignments you are asked to complete, and make contributions to all classroom-based and independent study activities. You are also expected to be punctual and attend all lessons, unless absence is authorised by the Programme Leader. The BUPEP teaching team will keep you informed about your progress throughout the programme. You will not need to take an IELTS test at the end of BUPEP.

Ayesha Al Hamali
Saudi Arabi
"I come from Saudi Arabia and aim to study for a Masters degree at Bournemouth University. I decided to enrol on BUPEP because it offered the best opportunity to prepare myself for academic study in the UK, which is totally different from my home country. I particularly like the friendly cross-cultural environment with tutors and other overseas students. Besides computer access, which is available 24 hours a day, the most important aspect for me is that we are encouraged and guided to think and work independently in order to enhance our personal skills."

Miguelangel Guevara
Venezuela
"In the UK, the education system is totally different to my previous experience in Venezuela. The BUPEP programme has helped me to get used to a new way of studying, particularly in the area of academic writing. In addition, the course provides me with a variety of tools in order to improve my English; these include the University's own virtual learning environment, online learning materials, library resources, and also of course classes with the tutors. I can fully recommend the BUPEP programme to any international student."
Important note regarding English language testing:
Once you have been made a formal BUPEP conditional offer from BU, it is very important that you inform the International Pathways Administrator if your language level change through further testing. If you do not do so, you may find that you will not be permitted to enrol on to the BUPEP programme.
