Every reason to celebrate!
On Friday 24 February 2012, BU's Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Vinney and students and staff from our Media School, were presented with a special award by Her Majesty The Queen at an event held at Buckingham Palace. Here at BU we had every reason to celebrate as you can see from our videos and images below.
The Queen's Anniversary Prize is the UK's most prestigious form of national recognition available to a UK academic or vocational institution and has been awarded for the talent, commitment and knowledge of our National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA) in BU's Media School. For the past 23 years, the NCCA has been at the forefront of computer animation education and research in the UK and graduates have made a global impact upon the film industry. Seventy alumni alone worked on 4 of the 5 films nominated in the category of Best Visual Effects at the 2012 Oscars. Read more about why BU received this award.
After the ceremony at Buckingham Palace, Professor Vinney and colleagues returned triumphantly to BU with the award for a special celebratory on-campus event held in Poole House with staff and students treated to complimentary champagne and cake. The BU Big Band provided the entertainment, including movie soundtracks from the films our graduates have worked on.
BU is extremely proud and honoured to have received this outstanding award based on the work of our exceptional staff and students in the computer animation and visual effects team.
Watch our specially commissioned film, The NCCA Story, charting the history and development of computer animation at BU, produced by our in-house production company Red Balloon.
