What happens to my application?
Once we have received your form we will give your application full consideration based on the information provided. For some courses we will require additional information before reaching a decision. You may also be invited to attend an interview, present a portfolio of work or undertake a selection test. We will make a decision on your application as soon as possible and keep you informed throughout the admissions process.
You will receive one of the following:
- Unconditional offer – you have met all the entry requirements for the course and have been offered a place
- Conditional offer – we are making you an offer based on some conditions. Very often the offer is based on achievement in your current qualifications, such as gaining an Honours degree, and/or obtaining an English Language qualification or equivalent
- Rejection – your application has been unsuccessful.
Once an offer has been made, we would appreciate receiving your acceptance or refusal as soon as possible. You will also be asked to pay a non refundable deposit* in accordance with timescales detailed in your offer letter to secure your place on the course. If you wish to withdraw your application, please let us know immediately as you may delay or deny other prospective students the opportunity of obtaining a place at Bournemouth University.
Deferral of a place to a later intake prior to commencing the course, on one occasion only, may be granted according to the circumstances of the applicant. The deposit is non-refundable in these circumstances. Deferral for two intakes will not normally be possible and it is likely that a new application will have to be submitted.
Applicants who fail to meet the conditions of their offer or those who fail to secure a visa will be given one further opportunity to meet those conditions/secure a visa or to have the deposit returned.
* The deposit amount is dependant on your tuition fee status. UK/EU applicants will normally be required to pay a minimum of £1,000. Students from outside the EU and Channel Island applicants pay £2,000. Students from certain other countries may be requested to pay a different amount for their deposit and this will be stated in your offer letter. The deposit will be refunded to students from outside the EU who were not granted a student visa or where the English or academic entry requirements set out in their offer letter were not achieved.
