BU / Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme
September 2009 entry - closed for 2009 entrants
This scholarship, offered in conjunction with the UK Government, is offered to students from developing Commonwealth countries who have applied to study a taught postgraduate (Masters) degree at BU beginning in September 2009 and who can demonstrate they already have an outstanding academic and personal profile.
Which countries must students be a national of to be eligible for this scholarship?
You must be a national of a developing Commonwealth county as listed on the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission website.
How many scholarships are awarded?
One scholarship is awarded for a student beginning their course in September 2009.
How much is the scholarship worth?
The BU / Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme covers the following:
Full tuition fee
Return air fare to the UK
Monthly allowance (approximately £700)
Thesis and study travel costs (approximately £300)
How long does the scholarship last for?
The scholarship is for the duration of the Masters course as described in the prospectus and the Course Search.
Which courses are covered by the scholarship?

Am I eligible to apply for this scholarship?
You must be a national of one of the countries listed on the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission website and for fees purposes you must be classified as having the status of an international (non-EU) student.
You may also be eligible for a number of other postgraduate scholarships offered at BU.
How do I apply?
You need to formally apply for the BU / Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme.
You will find the scholarship application form on the Commonwealth Scholarship & Fellowship Plan website which you will need to return to the address below.
You will only be considered for this scholarship if you hold a conditional or unconditional offer from BU.
What factors will be considered in deciding if I am eligible for this scholarship?
Applications are considered according to the following selection criteria:
academic merit of the candidate
the quality of the proposal
the potential of the candidate to lead in the pursuit of global excellence in research and knowledge.
When is the deadline for applying for this scholarship?
Application forms for this scholarship for courses beginning in September 2009 must be received at BU by 30 April 2009.
When will I hear if I have been successful?
You will be notified by 15 July 2009 if you have been successful in being awarded this scholarship.
