BU Santander-Abbey Scholarships

September 2009 entry - closed for 2009 entrants

As the group of “Santander Universities” now includes BU as a member, a new scholarship has been introduced and is offered to students who have applied to study one of the eligible taught postgraduate (Masters) degrees in the School of Conservation Sciences and who are nationals of one of the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, Uruguay or Venezuela.


Which countries must students be a national of to be eligible for this scholarship?

You must be a national of one of the 11 countries in the Santander Scheme. The Santander Universities scheme covers institutions in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

How many scholarships are awarded?

Four scholarships are awarded for students beginning their course in October 2009.

How much is the scholarship worth?

Each scholarship is worth a £5,000 reduction in tuition fee.

How long does the scholarship last for?

The scholarship is for the duration of the Masters course as described in the prospectus and the Course Search.

The following postgraduate courses in the School of Conservation Sciences at BU:

Am I eligible to apply for this scholarship?

You must be a national of and resident of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, Uruguay, Venezuela, at the time of application for your course at BU.

You may also be eligible for a number of other postgraduate scholarships offered at BU.

How do I apply?

You do not need to formally apply for a BU Santander-Abbey  Scholarship.

You will be considered automatically when you send your course application form to BU.

You will be informed if you have been successful if you receive an offer of a place at BU, subject to any conditions of offer that need to be met.

You must be able to demonstrate an exceptional academic and personal profile in your personal statement to be considered for this scholarship.

What factors will be considered in deciding if I am awarded this scholarship?

If you are applying for either:

you must hold a 1st or upper 2nd class honours degree or equivalent in one of the following subjects: Anthropology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Environmental science, Forensic Science, Medical laboratory sciences, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Toxicology.

If you are applying for any of the following, please click on the relevant course and this will give you the minimum entry criteria which you must achieve to be considered for a scholarship:

For any of the courses you should articulate your vision of how you intend your future career to develop, and how your intended postgraduate course will help you achieve that vision.

In particular, you should describe the goals that you hope to achieve and the issues that you intend to address in your future academic and professional life.

You should also provide evidence of your commitment to these goals, based on your previous practical or academic experience.

When is the deadline for applying for this scholarship?

All students from the relevant countries who hold an offer for an eligible Masters course in the School of Conservation Sciences beginning in September 2009, will be considered for this scholarship from the 31 July 2009.

When will I hear if I have been successful?

You will be notified by 15 August 2009 if you have been successful in being awarded this scholarship.

When do I receive the scholarship?

You will need to meet all the conditions of your offer to receive this scholarship.

You will receive the scholarship in the form of a tuition fee reduction when you enrol onto one of the eligible postgraduate courses in the School of Conservation Sciences.
