Kevan Shorey

MA Computer Animation

We always encourage our graduates to aim big but in Kevan Shorey's case, 'big' doesn't quite do his success justice since he left BU with an MA in Computer Animation.

He made his first film, a minute-and-a-half story called 'Joe's Playtime', when he was studying at BU . It was screened, along with other students' films, at an annual degree show in London, attended by members of the visual effects and animation industries.

'Joe's Playtime' caught the eye of a representative from DreamWorks and the rest, as they say, is history. Kevan now works in California and has already performed his animation magic on a series of major releases including 'Madagascar', 'Over the Hedge' and the last two 'Shrek' films: 'Shrek 2' and 'Shrek the Third'.

I feel very proud to have worked on the Shrek films, as it is such a high profile series. It's amazing to think just how many people are going to experience the work I have created. Right now there is probably someone watching the film I helped to put on the screen.

As part of the first animation team to commence work on the next blockbuster, 'Madagascar 2', Kevan's career is advancing nicely, though he admits to having to pinch himself at times to believe it's all real. "In this I have found what I always wanted to do and I'm going to stick at it and improve. I would say that my approach has been pretty successful and I count myself very fortunate to have ended up where I am so soon after graduating."
