Zoltan Konder
MA International Business Finance
International student from Hungary
The first thing Zoltan Konder noticed when he arrived at BU was the difference in degree delivery between here and his home country of Hungary.
If you have any questions or you don't understand something during lectures, you are encouraged to interrupt and ask straightaway, so you don't have to wait until the end.
He also didn't expect his degree, an MA in International Business Finance, to involve so much self-study time: "Your independent study time is your only real chance to get stuck into the subject; the wider you read around a topic, the hungrier you become to find out more."
BU's relaxed atmosphere and approachable staff immediately put Zoltan at ease when he arrived. His choice of accommodation, at Winterbourne House, has further made his stay a comfortable one. "The House is reserved for postgraduate students who enrol in the spring term, which was great for me as I didn't arrive in the UK until February. It's quite a new residence and it's very clean and quiet."
Like many international students, Zoltan was drawn to BU because of its varied student population, saying: "It's amazing being in the company of people you would otherwise never meet and I've really enjoyed learning about their countries and backgrounds."
With the help of BU's Graduate Employment Service, Zoltan has is confident about his forthcoming job search: "Being an international student who would like to stay in the UK and find a good job, it's doubly important to perform well during interviews. With the Service's help, I've rewritten my CV and worked on my interview skills too."
