Other qualifications considered

Access Courses

Access Courses are free-standing and will be considered for entry where applicants attain a qualification relevant to the subject area for which they are applying.

Advanced Diploma

We welcome applicants presenting Advanced Diplomas. Entry requirements and grades will vary from course to course. Some courses may require the study of specific subjects either within the Diploma or as part of Additional/Specialist Learning.

BTEC National Certificate or Diploma

We will consider applicants presenting an Award, Certificate or Diploma level qualification. Both the Award and Certificate qualifications should be combined with other Level 3 qualifications.

Cambridge Pre-U

We welcome applicants presenting the Cambridge Pre-U Certificate.

Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art, Design and Media

We welcome applicants presenting the Diploma.

International Baccalaureate

BU welcomes students who are studying the International Diploma as part of the International Baccalaureate (IB). If you receive an offer from BU it will state the minimum IB points (including any specific subject requirements) you will need to achieve to be able to enter the course.

It is important that you achieve the stated IB scores in your offer. BU does not accept equivalent UCAS tariff points.

European Baccalaureate

BU welcomes students who are studying the European Baccalaureate.

Irish Leaving Certificate

Applicants are normally required to achieve seven passes, including four at the higher level with grade C or above.

National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)

Level 3 NVQs will be considered in conjunction with other information that enables applicants to meet the course entry criteria.

Scottish Qualifications

We will consider applicants presenting Scottish Advanced Highers, Scottish Highers and other Scottish qualifications that meet the course entry criteria.

Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Diploma

Applicants will be expected to achieve the core in addition to two A levels and to satisfy the overall course entry criteria.

Mature Students

Applications from mature students, who may support their application further by providing evidence of appropriate experience, are encouraged.

Applicants with mixed or unfamiliar qualifications may be asked for additional information or invited to an interview.
