Access To Learning Funds

These non-repayable awards can provide help if you have financial difficulty during your course. The funds can be used to help with childcare, travel, accommodation, books/equipment and general expenses. This new fund replaces the Hardship Fund and Hardship Loan.

Who is eligible?

Full-time UK students are able to apply. Students in receipt of a non-means tested NHS bursary are also eligible to apply. Additional funds may also be available from the NHS Hardship Fund for students in receipt of NHS bursaries. UK undergraduate students must have applied for their full student tuition and maintenance loans before eligibility for Access to Learning Funds will be considered. Nursing students are expected to apply for their full NHS bursary before an Access to Learning Fund can be considered. EU (Non-UK) students are not eligible for these funds.

How much?

If your application is successful, the minimum award for 2011/12 is £100 and the maximum is £3,500.

How is it paid?

We will normally try to make an award for the whole of the academic year, to be paid termly. However, if your financial circumstances change, you may apply each term. You do not have to repay this help.
