Grants

September 2012 entry (UK only)

A grant is a non-repayable award which is available to students from low-income households. The aim of this grant is to help with day-to-day costs - typically accommodation, travel and domestic bills etc. You can find out more about them, and if you qualify, on this page.

Eligibility

UK undergraduate students from a low income background can apply for a non-repayable award of up to £3,250 per year. The amount you receive depends on your income, or that of the household you live in. For students whose family earn £25,000 or below, the maximum grant of £3,250 is awarded.

A partial grant is available for those students with a household income between £25,000 and £42,600. Students from a household with an income over £42,600 do not qualify for a grant.

Students will be assessed automatically for the grant when they apply to Student Finance England for their Tuition Fee Loan and Student Maintenance Loan.

EU (Non-UK) students are not eligible for this grant.

Please note: If you have studied in Higher Education previously this could potentially restrict the amount of fee and maintenance support available to you. Please check with Student Finance England or your awarding body.

Payment

Grants are paid in three instalments, one at the start of each term.
